Earth Could Reach Critical Climate Threshold in Decade

The planet could pass the critical 1.5°C global temperature threshold in a decade—and is already two-thirds of the way to hit that warming limit, climate scientists warned on Thursday.Speaking at a University of Oxford conference this week, led by leading U.K. climate researcher Richard Betts, scientists said global greenhouse gas emissions are not likely to slow down quickly enough to avoid passing the 1.5°C target.

Top 10 Acceptable Western Conspiracy Theories

The label conspiracy theorist is used by Western Establishment gatekeepers as a means of shutting down debate and smearing those who have the temerity to challenge elite-friendly narratives.

So here are the top ten acceptable Western establishment conspiracy theories. If you peddle them you won’t be labelled a crank or nut-job, but be hailed as an expert who may even be deserving of a column in a serious newspaper like the Washington Post, or the London Times. And who knows, you might even get a lucrative $offer$ from a top publishing house to write a book about conspiracy theories.

1. Iraq has WMDs which Threaten the World!

The most deadly conspiracy theory of them all – one which led to an illegal invasion and the destruction of a sovereign state and the deaths of up to 1m people. But the people who promoted it paid no professional penalty. Thirteen years on, the punditocracy in the US and UK is still dominated by those who assured us Saddam had WMDs (and also that the secular, cigar-smoking Sound of Music lover had links to al-Qaeda). Remember that the next time you see a smug, self-regarding member of the neocon elite journos club loftily accuse someone they regard as their social and intellectual inferior of being a conspiracy theorist. (mushroom clouds)

2. Iran’s Developing Nukes!

Since the early 90s we’ve been told the Islamic Republic is on the verge of developing nuclear weapons, or has already got them. The claims made repeatedly over the past 25 years by Israeli PM Netanyahu have been echoed by the same bunch of uber-hawks who pushed conspiracy theory 1. If you assert, without any evidence that say, Zambia is on the brink of developing nukes, you’ll be called a nutcase. But if you assert, without any evidence, that Iran is doing the same, then you’ll greatly increase your chances of being invited as an expert into the studios of Fox News or Newsnight.

Omar Mateen was a Child of America not ISIS

While Omar Mateen may have proclaimed allegiance to ISIS prior to unleashing mass murder in Orlando, he is the child of an American culture terminally ill with hatred of the other, and an addiction to guns and lethal violence in which it swims.

Slaughtering 49 people in a nightclub over their sexuality is as barbaric as it gets. It reminds us that bigotry, whether against Muslims, blacks, Jews, gays, or any other minority, is the enemy of all right thinking humanity. Not only on moral grounds but also to ensure we live up to the epic struggles previous generations have waged in crushing ideologies of hate and racism whenever and wherever they have emerged.

Fascism, the most obvious example, was and remains an equal opportunities ideology of hate and genocide. In Hitler’s concentration camps you had Russian Soviet POW’s, Jews, Communists, leftists, trade unionists, gypsies, disabled people and also gays. Predicated on a perverse belief in racial supremacy, the Nazis deemed each of the aforementioned subhuman and their eradication a non-negotiable condition of ‘purifying’ and ‘cleansing’ humanity.

The Nazis were crushed by the Red Army and the Soviet Union at huge cost and with the help from Western allies. Joining in common cause on the understanding that any ideological or cultural differences that existed between them were as nothing compared to the necessity of confronting and defeating an ideology that posed a threat to humanity itself. It is an alliance between East and West that the world is crying out for today when it comes to confronting and defeating ISIS and its various offshoots, groups whose inhumanity and barbarism are fueled by a fascist-like sense of divinely inspired supremacy, though religious rather than racial in their case.

That no such alliance between East and West currently exists when it comes to eradicating ISIS is an indictment of the lack of awareness. This is due to the responsibility and statesmanship prevalent within Western governments and on the part of Western ideologues. Prisoners of a cold war mind set, the West is being led by fools who consider Russia and China pose as much of a threat as ISIS, if not greater. It would be fair to assume that the families and friends of the victims of Omar Mateen would strenuously disagree right now.

The insanity that underpins such a twisted cold war prism is responsible for the absurdity of NATO military exercises being conducted on Russia’s border at the very moment Russian aircraft and servicemen are leading the fight against ISIS in Syria.

Though much is being made of Mateen’s radicalization and pledge of allegiance to ISIS – and of the fact he was investigated by the FBI not once, not twice, but three times without further action taken. He was still able to freely purchase the AR-15 assault rifle he used to carry out his massacre. Less is being made of the selfies that have emerged of Mateen dressed in a T-shirt and sweatshirt emblazoned with the logo of the NYPD (New York Police Department).

Here we arrive at the heart of the matter. For as much as the twisted ideology of hate that fuels ISIS has much to answer for when it comes to this crime, so does the twisted ideology that fuels America’s fixation with violence, power, and domination. A fixation that is reflected in a racist and bigoted law enforcement culture which values the lives of the citizens it exists to protect according to their race and wealth, and which places a priority on shooting first and asking questions later.

Don’t believe me just ask the Native Americans, whose presence and culture was almost completely eradicated from their land in service to white supremacy. Just ask African Americans, whose ancestors suffered centuries of slavery in service to the very same supremacist ideals. Or the people of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, cities used by psychopaths in suits for the purposes of a live experiment in nuclear destruction? Then we have the people of Korea and Vietnam, of Central and South America, not forgetting most recently the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya, all of whom have experienced the harsh reality of American exceptionalism.

Speaking the language of freedom and democracy while destroying societies and countries for the crime of refusing to bend the knee to this exceptionalism has poisoned American culture and society at home. The rank hypocrisy involved in a country proclaiming itself the home of liberty while counting among its closest allies medieval and barbaric states such as Saudi Arabia, where gay people are whipped and worse on regular basis, is reflected in the idiocy of gun laws devised in the 18th century still being considered relevant in the 21st.

Honesty is the Best Policy

Another federal election called by Stephen Harper is upon us in Canada.

In order for me to write about the issues let me disclose the following. I have no hidden agenda. Anything I say is done in my name and therefore my responsibility. I do not belong to any political party nor am I affiliated with any of them. I do not financially support any of the political parties. Over the decades, as a commercial producer, I did work for the Liberal Party, the original Conservative Party and the New Democratic Party. It was strictly a matter of producing commercials to be aired Federally or Provincially.

Further, I do not belong to any environmental group or organization, nor do I support any of them financially.

As far as other groups world wide I belong to one, The Jewish Voice for Peace, an open association of activists. Give what I can financially once a year. I am certain the association will continue despite my twenty-five to thirty dollar contribution.

During my early years in college I also began working in radio.

A few decades ago there were live people doing everything that needed to get done. We researched music and news stories for background information before they were broadcast. It made college life fun while studying broadcast communications, business accounting and economics.

The Province of Ontario was experimenting with education, as the government opened colleges, across the Province. Professors or Instructors were required to have 20-30 years work experience in their related fields before they were hired. This gave us more than a purely academic viewpoint. Mixed with their field experience, we learned to look at subject areas with an open mind approach, as opposed to one from a close minded textbook.

My purpose is to give you a sincere look at the landscape of Canada as we move towards voting on October 19, 2015. There are many topics: environment, economics, taxation, veterans, wars, justice, human rights, healthcare, poverty, women’s equality, first nations, NATO, terrorism acts, privacy and international agreements to discuss.

First and most important.. Are you registered to vote in this election? Here is where you can register and find out if your are registered.
